1. Paul's Pastoral Integrity in Ministry

1.1, The Minister's Conscience (Acts 23.1; 24.16; 2 Tim. 1.3).

1.2, The Minister's Character: Not giving offense (2 Cor. 6.3-10), no according to the flesh (2 Cor. 1.17), but according to God's empowering grace (1 Cor. 2.5; 3.10; 15.10; 2 Cor. 12.9).

1.3, The Minister's Conduct

Both in the world: (1 Pet. 1.17; Col. 4.5; 1 Tim. 3.7; 1 Thess. 4.12).

And in the Church: (2 Cor. 4.1-2; 2 Cor. 5.11; 1 Thess. 2.3-10).

2. Paul's Pastoral Ambition

  • Paul's concern for all the churches: (2 Cor. 11.28 cf. Acts 15.36, 40, 4; 18.23; 20.2, 18-35; Phil. 2.20).
  • Paul's desire to produce joy: (2 Cor. 1.24; 2.1-3).
  • Paul's desire to be understood: (2 Cor. 2.13-14, 15-22).
  • Paul's desire to be united with the church: (2 Cor. 6.11-13; 7.2 cf. 10.1-11; 12.11; 13.3, 5-6).
  • Paul's desire for mutual confidence in future glory: (2 Cor. 2.14; 1 Thess. 2.19-20).
