1) Paul's Complicated Correspondence with the Church

  • A brief sketch of Plans (1 Cor. 16.1-9; 2 Cor. 2.3ff; 2 Cor. 1.8ff.)
  • A brief defense of Paul's integrity: Not according to the flesh (2 Cor. 1.12, 17 cf. 1 Cor. 2.14).

  • The faithfulness of God and the integrity of Paul’s ministry
  • God is faithful and acts upon His faithfulness: (1 Cor. 1.9; 10.13; 1 Thess. 5.24; 2 Thess. 3.3).

2.2) The faithfulness of God in Christ and the integrity of Paul’s ministry

Paul's message was Christ: (1 Cor. 2.2; Col. 1.28)

Paul's faithful associates (Acts 15.32, 40; Phil. 2.19-22)

Paul's ministry and God's Christological promises:

  • Covenantal promises (Rom. 9.5; 15.8; Eph. 2.12)
  • Prophetic promises (Gen. 3.15; 12; 15; 18; Deut. 18; Ps. 132.11/Acts 2.30; Joel 2.28-32/ Acts 2.16-21; Rom. 1.2-4).
  • Paul gives us a Christ-centered Hermeneutic: (Lk. 24.25-27, 44; 1 Pet. 1.10-12; Rom. 1.1-4; Eph. 1.10).
  • Paul describes redemption as Covenant (Eph. 2.12), Confirmation (2 Cor. 1.20; Rev. 3.14) and Consummation (2 Cor. 1.20b)
